Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student knows: the main connections between migration and learning processes, expecially when second generation immigrants are involved; the multicultural family models, with special attention to international adoption; the developmental processes of children and adolescents with foreign origins (or internationally adopted); the contemporary debate on multiculturalism and interculturalism. He is also aware of tools and strategies to plan and evaluate training courses on intercultural education in extra-school contexts; he understands the categorisation processes related to the formation of stereotypes and prejudices and is sensible to the aim to overcome ethnic conflicts; he knows historical, social and cultural factors that lead to racist attitudes and behaviors.
Course contents
The first part of the course will explore the main concepts and knowledge connected
to the multicultural societies. It aims to promote understanding
and reflection on new possible approaches for active citizenship.
The topics covered in the course are the following:
- globalisation;
- multicultural societies and intercultural approach;
- stereotypes, prejudices and educational approach;
- racism and xenophobia;
- diversity, differences and valorisation of the differences;
- assimilation, segregation and integration;
- intercultural education: construction and evaluation of extra-school learning paths
- conflict management.
The topics will be explained and discussed through frontal
lessons and then the students are expected to deepen topics, in which they are particular interested through workgroups aiming at producing a multimedial presentation to be discussed and defended in plenum with teacher and others students. This presentation represents part of the final assessment.
The second part of the course is tailored on the specif topics ot this degree course and deals with a pedagogical analisys of migration in the literatur based on the German and the Italian cases

Frontal lessons, group discussions, workshops and seminars
Assessment methods
The final examination consists in a written text to be answered in 90 mm.
It aims at evaluating students' achievement of the following goals:
- to uncover and analyze meaning and role of the intercultural approach in the contemporary multicultural societies;
- to reason the interrelation of the intercultural pedagogy with the other educational sciences;
- to identify the conceptual theories of scientific investigations in the multicultural field;
- to identify the main emerging issues of the sport education in multicultural environment;
- to know the main problems connected to the social and work integration of migrant young people;
- to know the main models regulating the migrant access and stay in European countries.
Evaluation criteria: The test aims to evaluate the knowledge of the text's contents, assessing student's synthesis and analysis skills The final mark is expressed in thirtieths.Praise is awarded, in the case that all answers are correct and show through particularly effective writing depths of analysis and reflective-argumentative originality
