Graduates will have an adequate knowledge of the basic disciplines so as to allow them the best understanding of the most important elements at the base of the pathological processes on which their rehabilitative and/or therapeutical intervention in the development age, adults and the elderly is focused.
The Interministerial Decree of April 2 2001 identifies the figure of Professional Operator with the following profile: “It is the social and medical operator who implements specific educational and rehabilitative projects part of a therapeutical project developed by a multidisciplinary team aimed at developing personality with educational/relational objectives, within a context of participation and recovery of the daily life; he/she supervises the positive psychological-social integration and reintegration of subjects in difficulty”. Achievement of the professional skills is accomplished through theoretical and practical education, which includes also the acquisition of behavioural skills achieved through a specific working context, thus guaranteeing full command over all necessary skills, and their immediate usability in working environment, on completion of the course. Given the multitude of skills provided for the Professional Educator, special attention will be placed on psychiatric-social course, mainly oriented toward acquisition of theoretical-practical skills useful for graduates operating within psychiatric and drug dependency areas.
The graduates of the course are health-care operators in the area of rehabilitation who practice, with professional control and autonomy, activities targeted at the rehabilitation of either the individual or public in general, in order to fulfil their duties provided by the professional profile provided for by the Ministerial Decree from the Health Ministry nr. 520 of October 8 1998 and subsequent amendments and modifications.
In the healthcare sector, the Professional Operator is employed in psychiatry, in the services for drug addiction, in the care for subjects affected by dementia, HIV and within hospital, in the social area the Professional Operator works with minors, with handicaps under the competence of the local institution, within multi-culturalism and the elderly. Graduates will operate in public and private social-healthcare-rehabilitative and social-educational structures throughout the territory, in residential and semi-residential structures as employee or freelance.
Graduates will programme, manage and verify educational interventions targeted at recovering and developing potentialities in subjects in difficulties, in order to achieve more and more advanced levels of autonomy; they contribute to the promotion and organisation of medical and social structures and resources in order to achieve the integrated educational project; they programme, organise, manage and verify their professional activities within the social-healthcare services and social-healthcare-rehabilitative and social-educational structures in a coordinated and integrated manner with other professional figures present within the structures, through the direct involvement of the affected subjects and/or their families, of the groups, and public in general, and operate with the families and within the patients' social context with the purpose of promoting their reintegration in the communities; they operate with families and social contexts of the patients with the purpose of promoting their reintegration in the communities; participate in activities of studies, research and documentation for the above-listed purposes; contribute to the education of students and personnel of support and directly contribute to the updating of their professional profile and health education; they utilise at least one language of the European Union, in addition to Italian, within their specific field of competence and for the exchange of general information; they know the major ethical and juridical principles pertaining to the profession, as well as the regulations of protection from radiations according to the contents in attachment IV of Legislative Decree nr. 187 of May 26 2000.
