Language requirement for programme enrolment

Check what the language requirements are for enrolment in first-, single- and second cycle degree programmes, Master's, Postgraduate School and PhD programmes.

Depending on your nationality and the type of course you want to enrol in, you may have to certify your language level.

First, single and second cycle Degree Programmes

Citizenship of an EU member country

If you have citizenship in an EU country, you do not have to prove knowledge of the Italian language.

Citizenship of a non-EU country

If you are a citizen of a non-EU country and reside abroad, you must meet the Italian language knowledge requirement in order to enrol in the programme.

You can do this:
- by passing an Italian language test organised by the University of Bologna;
or
- by presenting a valid Italian language certificate or a high school diploma obtained in the Italian language.
