Learning outcomes

Pharmacist approach to the organization of the first aid in order to give concrete suggestions, to understand signs and syntoms of illnesses, and immediate management of traumatic events as opportunity to interact as first person in the territory.

Course contents

At the end of the course the student is able to: know the fundamental elements of the activation of the public emergency system. Acquire the fundamental knowledge of first aid in particular relating to illnesses that may involve him in the role of pharmacist. The course also aims to know in detail some traumatic and non-traumatic pathological conditions present in the population.

Method of aid: the first aid and the chain of aids

First aid for the respiratory and cardiocirculatory emergency

First aid for sudden lost of consciousness

The consciousness: levels

Severity signs and syntoms: alterations of consciousness, signs and syntoms of neurological deficits, convulsions

Shock, syncope, stroke, epileptic seizure

First aid for head and spinal injuries

First aid for wounds, burns, sprains, dislocations and fractures

First aid for diabetic emergencies, hypo- and hyperglycemic crises

First aid for allergies, poisoning, intoxication

No books suggested. The final quiz will be based on the topics presented during the frontal lessons.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons using Power Point presentations and practical training sessions.

Assessment methods

Writing multiple choice quiz.

The minimum attendance requirement to be admitted to the final exam is 60% of lessons. Students who fail to meet the minimum attendance requirement will not be admitted to the final quiz of the course and will take the test as an oral test.

The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, taking into account the teaching objectives.

In order to prepare the final quiz it is requested to actively participate to the lessons, to take notes during the lessons and to download the presentations prepared from the professor available in Virtuale.
