Learning outcomes

He/she knows cellular functions and their regulation for homeostasis maintainment. Knows the strategies of intercellular communication. Knows the physiology of the cell membrane and ion exchanges.

Course contents

The present course is a part (1 CFU) of the exam "The cell and its functions". 

Concepts of homeostasis and homeorhesis; the functions of subcellular organelles and cell membranes; the concept of compartmentalization; the functions of membranes; membrane passages; active and passive transport across membranes; the resting transmembrane potential of cells; cell excitability; the basis of cellular communication; synapses.
