Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student has acquired basic knowledge of the main bibliographical sources supplied by the University of Bologna, as well as by some international organizations, and is able to search for and retrieve information available in these sources, so that he or she can adequately prepare for the written exam that concludes his or her academic journey.
Course contents
The course focuses on the following topics:
- the materials of libraries;
- online catalogs to trace bibliographic sources;
- access to books, electronic journals, and databases;
- introduction to writing an academic text;
- the structure of the paper;
- bibliographic citations according to international standards.
Readings/Bibliography
The students will work on sources and electronic resources (www.sba.unibo.it), as well as on materials provided during the course.
Teaching methods
Lectures and hands-on exercises.
Important: attendance is mandatory. In order to be admitted to the final test of the Workshop, the student must have attended at least 7 out of 10 classes (70%).
Please note: Considering the type of activities and the teaching methods used, attendance for this training activity requires the prior participation of all students in Modules 1 and 2 of safety training in study locations, [https://elearning-sicurezza.unibo.it/] in e-learning mode.
Assessment methods
At the end of the course, students who have attended at least 70% of the Workshop must take a written test which includes:
a) identifying a research question along with related keywords;
b) researching relevant bibliographic sources, demonstrating the ability to apply the necessary filters;
c) drafting a bibliography compiled according to international standards.
The Workshop does not involve a grade but simply a pass. To achieve it, the student must be able to: a) define a research question; b) trace the main relevant sources; c) compile a bibliography of those sources in accordance with international standards.

The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, taking into account the teaching objectives.
