Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student possesses a thorough knowledge of metalanguage and various aspects of a descriptive-analytic model of the Spanish language and is competent in all communicative skills at the C1 level of the parameters set by the Council of Europe.

Course contents

Frontal lectures (Prof. Peñín):

MODULE 1:

Introduce the student to linguistic pragmatics, with special reference to:

- Linguistic acts

- Politeness

- Nonverbal communication.

MODULE 2: To initiate the linguistic analysis of specialized languages:

- The language of advertising

- The language of the media

- The language of science

- The language of tourism

- The language of tourism, etc.

Erasmus+ (incoming) students

Erasmus male and female students from Spanish universities (carreras: Filología española, Filología románica, Magisterio) will only be admitted to this course if their Learning Agreement includes the study of PRAGMATICS or SPECIALITY LANGUAGES in Spanish.

ERASMUS male and female students should get in touch with the Exercises lecturer (Dr. Pilar Asarta) and the Linguistics lecturer (Prof. Natalia Peñín) in the first two weeks after the start of the course to find out if they can attend the course and to orient themselves on the required language level, syllabuses and exam arrangements of both parties.
Students who have not written to the lecturers at least three months before the exam will not be admitted to the Exercise and Linguistics exams.

Teaching methods

Gradual exposition of the program topics will be accompanied by summary diagrams of the compulsory texts, numerous examples from written, oral and multimodal texts that will be analyzed in class, and research and analysis activities on contemporary Spanish.

The compulsory texts listed in the Bibliography will be explained in class.

Assessment methods

LINGUISTICS - Linguistic face-to-face lectures (Prof. Natalia Peñín Fernández).

Verification of acquird knowledge involves an oral test in Spanish on the theoretical content of the program. The content is based on texts from the Bibliography. Evaluation based on: expressive ability, completeness and correctness of content, argumentative coherence, dialogical ability.
