First cycle degree programme (L) in
Chemical methodologies for products and processes (cod. 6006)
Also valid for First cycle degree programme (L) in Chemical methodologies for products and processes (cod. 5881)
-
from Sep 27, 2023 to Dec 20, 2023
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to develop the ability to read process flow-sheets and to evaluate the effect of the various operating parameters on the management of chemical processes. In particular, the use of reaction calorimetry to evaluate process issues related to safety and scale-up will be explored.
Course contents
Experience on a laboratory plant present in the research and development laboratories of the University of Bologna. Analysis of the studied process, evaluation of the risk associated with the type of process, description of the catalysts and process parameters. Laboratory experience: determination of the interfacial area in two-phase reaction systems. Laboratory experience: catalytic acylation of anisole with acetic anhydride Experience: Reaction calorimetry measurements. Visit to a chemical plant
Readings/Bibliography
https://virtuale.unibo.it/ platform will be used to deposit documents and reading materials prepared by the teacher.
Teaching methods
The course consists of individual and group exercises and laboratory activities. Some of the activities will be carried out in collaboration with companies.
In consideration of the types of activities and teaching methods adopted, the attendance of this training activity requires that all students of modules 1 and 2 carry out in e-learning mode and the participation in module 3 of specific training on safety and health in the places of study. Information on dates and methods of attendance of module 3 can be consulted in the appropriate section of the study course website.
Assessment methods
The judgment relating to the various laboratory modules will be unique and will be expressed through suitability/unsuitability. The assessment will be based on: drafting of reports or final group work relating to the experiences carried out, observance of the safety standards, compilation of the laboratory notebook, compliance with the deadlines for the delivery of the reports. There is no final exam. Passing the course will be conditional on attending at least 75% of the lessons and exercises. Attendance will be ascertained by signing an attendance sheet both at the beginning and at the end of each laboratory experience.
Teaching tools
The activities carried out in the course also make use of supports such as power point presentations, films and multimedia whiteboards; all the teaching material presented is accessible to students on the teaching application https://virtuale.unibo.it/.
