Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will know how to use the different tools, such as catalysis and unconventional substrate activation (i.e. photoinduced transformations), that enable to plan and realize organic transformations that fully respect the major principles of sustainable organic chemistry.
Course contents
Suggestions: expertise in organic chemistry, in particular synthesis and reactivity of the main functional groups.
Course contents:
Focus:
Some current industrial applications of organic compounds.
Development of sustainable alternative substances and materials
Development of sustainable alternative production and manufacturing
Main topics:
Dyes
Carbohydrates and Materials
Proteins and Materials
Organic nanomaterials (nanocellulose, carbon dots)
Lipids-Detergents
Radicals and Antioxidants
Additive manufacturing, 3D printing
Bioinks for 3D printing
Readings/Bibliography
Slides on Virtuale and papers and reviews suggested by the teacher.
Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures accompanied by exercises of application of the presented concepts
Assessment methods
The assessment of learning is assessed with the final oral exam in one of the six exam sessions defined by the teacher along the academic year
To carry out the oral exam registration is required through "Alma exams ", in respect of the mandatory deadlines.
The assessment of the learning consists in an oral presentation on a research topic selected by the student among the ones learned during the course.
The student will have to prepare a power point presentation (maximum of 15 slides) according to materials deduced using 1 paper among 3-4 papers proposed to the teacher.
During the oral exam, the student will explain the article, with particular regard to the synthesis and properties of the described compounds.
Then a discussion will follows about the presented concepts and the theme of the article discussing also the basic concepts common to all the topics covered during the course.
The final assessment takes into account the ability to discuss the general concepts and the reported results.
