Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student:knows the drugs in
contemporary society:social uses and meanings, the sociological
dimensions of the phenomenon, effects and new usage scenarios. The
new forms of addiction without substances, such ad Internet
addiction, compulsive shopping, pathological gambling, etc;-will
know the criteria for the diagnosis of drug addiction-knowledge of
the main forms of psychopathology related to the use and
abuse of substances (alcohol, drugs,medication)-know the most
significant medical complications due to substance abuse-know the
classification of substances of abuse on the basis of their
mechanism of action- know the main strategies of educational
intervention in various forms of addiction.
Course contents
The drugs in contemporary society:social uses and meanings, the
sociological dimensions of the phenomenon, effects and new usage
scenarios. The deep cultural change in recent years has also
favored the development of new forms of addiction without
substances, such as internet addiction, compulsive shopping,
gambling, etc.
The classification of drugs of abuse based on their mechanisms of
action, the most significant medical complications and
psychopathology due to substance abuse, the criteria for the
diagnosis of drug addiction.
The main strategies of educational intervention in various forms of
addiction.

Assessment methods
Learning is tested by means of an oral examination.
The aim of the oral test is to verify the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge and to make the necessary logical-deductive connections.
Grading of the final grade:
Preparation on a very limited number of topics covered in the course and analytical ability that emerges only with the help of the teacher, expression in overall correct language → 18-19;
Preparation on a limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to analyse independently only on purely executive issues, expression in correct language → 20-24;
Preparation on a large number of topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29;
Substantially comprehensive preparation on the topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis and linking, full command of specific terminology and ability to argue and self-reflect → 30-30L.
