Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student has the general concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. He also knows the characteristics of some classes of drugs used in pain therapy such as for example NSAIDs and opioids with the indication in specific clinical cases.

Pharmacokinetics: absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs
Main pharmacokinetic parameters: bioavailability, volume of distribution, AUC, Cmax, Tmax, clearance)
Pharmacodynamics: mechanisms of drug action, agonists, antagonists, relation between drug concentration and effect
Notes on factors influencing drug response
Notes on clinical drug developement and pharmacovigilance
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs); anti-inflammatory steroids.
General principles of pain therapy
Anti-infectious chemotherapy: general principles; antibacterial drugs, antifungal drugs
General principles of drugs for respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases
