At the end of the module the student has the basic knowledge to understand the conditions of personal and relational distress
Course contents
Definition of Clinical Psychology and areas of application.
Psychodynamics and the main models of the mind.
The contribution of psychodynamics to the understanding of the relationship between the clinician and the assisted person.
Attachment theory: the strange situation and the style of attachment. Mentalization.
Hints on: psychoanalysis and the problem of hysteria, ego psychology, psychological defenses and adaptation. the theory of object relations, the psychology of the self and the problem of narcissism.
The problem of diagnosis in clinical psychology: the DSM V and the Kernberg model.
Readings/Bibliography
You do not need to buy specific texts. During lessons it will be provided: educational material also available through username and password at AMS Campus - AlmaDL - University of Bologna, references to suggested texts.
Teaching methods
The teaching consists of 3 lectures of (two of 3 hours and one of 2 hours) for a total of 8 hours. The contents of the program will be presented with examples of clinical cases.
Assessment methods
The verification is aimed at evaluating the learning of the main models of the mind in order to understand, manage and improve the relationship between the healthcare provider and the client. The verification, through written exam, consists of 31 multiple choice questions (for each question, four answers to choose from). The verification will last for 45 minutes. There is also an ongoing test which consists of 31 true / false answers lasting 30 minutes.

Slides, movies, interactions with students will be used.
