Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be familiar texts and topics related to the history of science

Course contents

The course will examine the scientific and technical contents of Lucretius' poem De rerum natura. It will illustrates the relations of Lucretius' doctrine both with Epicurus' natural philosophy and lively cultural, scientific and technological context of ancient Rome. Particualr attention will be paid to the comment of books I, II, V, VI of the poem. BEGINNING OF THE COURSE SEPTEMBER 26, 2016, aula VII, via Zamboni 38, ore 11-13
