Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students should be able to recognize and know, in an interdisciplinary perspective (socio-criminologica, victimological and legal): (A) the main kind and characteristics of criminal liability concerning informatics, Internet and web society (cyber crimes; computer crimes; computer-related crimes); (B) victim protection and the main systems of prevention, reaction and fight about cyber crimes (including elements of computer forensics and legal aspects concerning research and acquisition of digital evidence); (C) liability of Internet Service Providers and their debated role in the fight against cyber crimes.

Course contents

A) Cyber Crimes, Computer Crimes and Computer Related-Crimes; 

B) Compliance model and liability under the Italian legislative decree No. 231/2001 concerning cyber crimes;

C)  Analysis of the main processes of victimization and the main remedies for victims in cyber crimes;

D) Liability and role of ISPs;

E) Elements of computer forensics and legal aspects of research and acquisition of evidence about cyber crimes.

Lectures. Workshops. Analysis of Italian Court Cases and other sources (i.e. material of research)

Assessment methods

(A) Oral examination (three open questions).

(B) Students who have attended lectures may replace part of the program with a practical test (in that case final examination consists of both oral and practical test).
