Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student achieve the knowledge on the main theoric instruments useful for the analysis of the discrimination issues in a sociological-legal perspective. Moreover the student has the opportunity to encounter figures directly involved in advocacy of marginal groups from direct and indirect discriminations.

Course contents

The seminar face some issues linked to the relation between discrimination and law in a sociological and legal perspective. The aim is to enlight the "de facto" mechanisms through which regulation acts on macro areas of social vulnerability, that are defined by factors like: foreign nationality, sexual orientation and gender, psychiatric disorder affection. Those factors are potentially able to engender discriminations which are not always contrasted by legal provisions.


The encounters will be held at room 22 of Palazzo Malvezzi, 22 Zamboni, from 17.00 until 19.00.

Teaching methods

The seminar consist of 16 hours classroom divided in 8 encounters. It will be held through lectures and participation to discussion stimulated by lecturers. Moreover it is expected to propose case-study and work-group to promote comprehension of topics treated.

Assessment methods

The idoneity to the seminar is tested by an interview upon treated topics and bibliography indicated during the classroom. Students are admitted to the interview prior attending 75% of the classroom scheduled.

Teaching tools

Classroom lectures will be held with the help of slides presentation and projection of short videos.
