Learning outcomes

The Sail Knowledge (Theory and Technics)is mandatory for Students attending this Course prepairing themselves to reach graduation in University studies in Rimini. Course is divided in : Theory, Weather Knoledge (Forecast understanding) Safety and Manouvering Rules, Medical evaluation and Phisycal Training, developed in according with FIV (Italian Sail Federation) rules (methods and directives).

Course contents

Capt 1st : Boat structure and terminology

(hull - propulsion system, steering system(rudder and components)

different hulls

sail boat components (terminology)

2.- armament: fixed and current components

sail terminology

main links on board

stability of sail boat (stability, gravity center, sail centre)

Cap 2nd : Weather and wind

hearth atmosphere,influence of components (solar radiation, tempertaure, Pressure, ); wind and instruments of measure (direction, Intensity)

light winds (daily and nightly);Wind Rose; Mediterranean winds; Scale Beaufort, wind effects on sails

Sea state; Fronts , clouds, the stormyweather, fog

Capt4 : manouvering:

wind and conterwind- turning, counterturning, balancing control on boats

Capt. 5° : manouvering technics

boat stabilization ; keel and rudder control (small and large boats)

Capt 6 : safety onboard

components and equipment control; sail dress, rescue (Man over Board)

Towing

sanding/rocking/sunking

temporary sunking

safety rules

Capt 7 : approaching avoidance Rules

rules for motorboat and sail boat- daily and night signals and lights

collision avoidance

Capt 8 . mooring, departure, anchoring of the boat

Capt 9 : sail man health and training:

Medical evaluation, training methods, accidents, Phisycal exercises
