Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to give basic concepts and computational methods of quantum mechanics, solid state theory and electronic transport theory for the quantum-mechanical study of electronic, structural and transport properties of molecular electronic devices.

Course contents

  • ELEMENTS OF QUANTUM MECHANICS: Wave-mechanics - Time independent Schroedinger equation - Time dependent Schroedinger equation - Applications to atomic and molecular systems.
  • SEMICONDUCTOR FUNDAMENTALS: Basic semicondutor properties - Energy band theory - Equilibrium carrier statistic - Recombination-Generation processes - Carrier transport.
  • ELEMENTS OF ELECTRONIC TRANSPORT THEORY: Capacitance - Level broadening - Coherent and non-coherent transport - Quantum transport equations - Physics of Ohm's law.
