Learning outcomes

The course is aimed at furnishing to students the criteria for the choice and the interpretation of diagnostic laboratory analysis employed in the veterinary clinical practice.

Course contents

The students collect the relevant data concerning diagnostic laboratory analysis carried out on the clinical cases seen during the training at The Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The choice and the interpretation of analysis as well as the diagnosis are discussed with the teacher.

Teaching methods

The discussion of clinical cases is carried out daily at the Veterinary Clinical Pathology lab, during clinical examinations at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital or at lectures room. The most interesting clinical cases are presented by teacher by means of interactive computer supports

Assessment methods

The students will be asked to write medical records based on actual clinical cases. Furthermore, brief reports of critical appraisal of recent literature will be asked and used to ascertain the self-directed learning and broaden and update the knowledge of the students as well.

Teaching tools

The teaching objectives are persecuted by means of either presentations with computer tools or allowing to the students to follow and/or to carry out personally the diagnostic assays at the Laboratory of the Department.
