Learning outcomes

To provide knowledge relevant for employment within companies and within Development Agencies. The knowledge acquired in the first part of the programme improves the ability to stimulate creativity and innovation within companies. The knowledge acquired in the second part of the programme increases company's ability to find financial support for innovation and Development Agency ability to identify strategies for improving national economic system innovation. 

Course contents

The topics that will be analysed are as follows:

  • Creativity as the basic element for Innovation. Creative Problem Solving
  • How to link university and company
  • Technology transfer between university and enterprises: methodology, problems, solutions
  • Needs of companies and research of information on databases
  • The academic spin-off companies: promoting, funding, location
  • Patents: a tool to promote innovation?
  • Environment for innovation: Science Parks, Research Parks, Business Innovation Centres, Incubators. Cases studies in UK, France, Italy
  • How to measure innovation. The main indicators: comparision amongst countries
  • Funding innovation
  • The European Union's actions to promote innovation. 7th Framework Programme. European Commission's goals.
  • National and regional financing support for innovation

Readings/Bibliography

The material dictated has been formed from articles in English or Italian, which will be indicated over the development of the course. It will be available at copisteria Asterisco, via Belle Arti, 31 A/B.

Teaching methods

Traditional lectures; research on Internet data bases; visit of websites for case study analysis; team working; presentations from company representatives.

Assessment methods

Written test with three questions.
Duration of test: 1hr 45mins
At the candidates choice, it is possible to substitute one of the three questions with a different way of valuation that will be agreed during the development of the course. Regarding this route, an oral examination is foreseen.
