Learning outcomes

The course will: - provide students with a know-how on the historical and archaeological situation of Central Europe between VIII century b. C. and the Romanization.

Course contents

The Celts in Europe

 History of the discipline.Ancient literary and historical sources.The archaeological record.

Iron Age: Hallstatt, Circles  Westhallstatt and Easternhallstatt Europe.Chronological questions.

Relations and exchanges between the Mediterranean world and western Hallstatt's area.Princely residences and tombs: Hohenasperg, Heuneburg, Mont Lasssois.The anthropomorphic sculptures from the late stone age of Hallstatt age of La Tene.The age of La Tene Celtic world: the fifth century, Champagne, Middle Rhine, Bohemia.The fourth century: migration in Italy, the expansion in the Danubian area.The shrines of war.The civilization of oppida

Teaching methods

Student can write a small essay on an issue that has particularly interested or impressed them, agreeing with the teacher (by e-mail: daniele.vitali@unibo.it). The preparation is verified through an oral examination.
