29358 - Ideologies and Political Legitimation

Course contents

The course aims at reconstructing the ideological effects of the contemporary political discourse. A particular attention will be devoted to the discursive and institutional practices oriented at legitimizing or delegitimizing the society and the State.

 

The course will be divided into two parts: attending the first part of this course is valid also for the students who must attend the course “Storia delle ideologie europee contemporanee”.

 

The first part will look at the history of the ideological discourse, from its beginning at the end of XVIII century to its seeming crisis at the end of last century, and beyond. The legitimizing or delegitimizing effects of the practices of production and reproduction of societies will be shown.

 

The second part of the course will face the ideological effects of the political discourse of the modern State, particularly taking into the account its crisis and its contemporary re-legitimations.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons. The papers made by the students will be discussed in a seminary-form during the lessons.

Assessment methods

A) Corso di laurea magistrale in Relazioni internazionali

Ideologie e legittimazione politica

For the students attending classes: there will be an oral exam, at the end of the course, or the oral and written contribution of the student during the course will be evaluated.

For the students who will not attend the classes: they may present a paper of minimum 3000 words on the texts chosen with the agreement of prof. Ricciardi, or they may decide for an oral exam choosing two texts from section A) and one text from section B) of the bibliography. The paper can be sent by e mail at least 10 days before the exam.

 

B) Corso di laurea specialistica in Relazioni internazionali:

Storia delle ideologie europee contemporanee:

To obtain the 6 CFU of this course it will be sufficient to attend the first part of the course itself. The students who will attend the class may choose between an oral exam concerning two text chosen from section A) and the presentation of a paper of minimum 2000 words about two texts chosen with the agreement of prof. Ricciardi. The students who will not attend the class will have an oral exam on two texts chosen from section A) of the bibliography. The paper can be sent by email at least 10 days before the exam.
