29170 - Laboratory of Transport Phenomena M

Academic Year 2008/2009

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Chemical and Process Engineering (cod. 0929)

Course contents

The program of the course covers the following topics:
Introduction on the local balance of momentum energy and matter and problem related to the solution for real world operations.
Numerical approach to the solution of the transport related problems: introduction to numerical solutions of partial differential  equations, method of the finite volumes, mathematical and physical bases, analisys of different spatial and temporal discretization methods. Iterative algorithm for the solution of the total mass and momentum balances (methods SIMPLE-SIMPLEC PISO)
Presentation of the structure of commercial CFD software.
Laboratory activities with use of commercial software for the solution of problems in stationary and transitory regimen, concerning the simultaneous transport of momentum and energy. Discussion and analysis of the results comparisons with the analytical solution for simple problem and with experimental data.
