Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to explain and clarify, from the medicinal chemistry point of view, the different steps of the drug development: starting from the choice of the biological targets to the discovery of a lead compound and its optimization.

Course contents

Introduction, topics and aims of the course. Research and development of new drugs. Biological targets selection. The starting point: lead compound. Lead modification and strategies related to, molecular modelling. Patents: advantages, structure, examples. Research metodologies by internet data banks, the use of the most common free chemistry softwares.

In order to pass this exam it will be required orally the knowledge of the subjects reported in the program.

Teaching tools

All the teaching program wiil be explained by PC power point presentation and, when necessary, by using the molecular models.
