54749 - Inorganic Chemistry II

Academic Year 2008/2009

  • Docente: Alberto Juris
  • Credits: 5
  • SSD: CHIM/03
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Chemistry (cod. 0538)

Learning outcomes

The course is aimed to give basic information on the chemistry of the elements of blocks d and f. The behavior of these elements will be rationalized on the basis of their position in the periodic table, and also using physical chemistry concepts.

Course contents

Coordination compounds: ligands, coordination number, isomerism, nomenclature, electronic structure, optical and magnetic properties, stability and reactivity. Fundamental concepts in the chemistry of block-d elements: periodic trends in physical and chemical properties, bonding, oxidation states, preparations and uses. Main aspects of the chemistry of lanthanides and actinides.
