42101 - Reproductive Biotechnologies in Fish

Academic Year 2008/2009

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Aquaculture and Ichthyopathology (cod. 0403)

Learning outcomes

The growing application of innovating biotechnologies in the field of reproduction in fish underline the extreme importance of the acquisition of specific information about the basic elements of these techniques from the student of the three-years degree course on aquacolture and ichthyopathology

Course contents

This course aims to offer to the student an adequate and updated theoretical-practical preparation about the function of gametes, the fertilisation and the subsequent embryo development and the main biotechnologic techniques applied to the reproduction of ichthyc species: methods of sex inversion using hormones; techniques of manipulation of chromosomes (gynogenesis, androgenesis, induction of triploidy and tetraploidy); methods of transgenesis (microinjection, electroporation, "sperm-mediated gene transfer")
