Course contents
Terminology course for Computer Aided Translation of sectorial languages
General Objectives
The course is divided into 32 hours of lesson (16 lessons) distributed on 8 weeks (2 lessons per week) carried out in the information laboratory.
The aim of this course is to provide students with the knowledge necessary to create and manage a translation project using CAT Tools.
The course is divided into a first introductive part, a second part regarding automatic and assisted translation and a third part including a practical application of these tools.
For the exam, students must create and carry out a translation project with the help of CAT Tools. The project could involve maximum three students.
MULTITERM
· Terminology Database management: add, eliminate, modify terminological cards
· Use of MultiTerm toolbar: extraction and printing of terminological data
· Practical application during a translation.
WINALIGN
· Presentation of alignment techniques
· Presentation of the Software interface
· Practical application
MULTITERM EXTRACT
Extraction of terminology and creation of monolingual or bilingual through the import of .tmx files
· Presentation of the Software interface
· Practical application
TRADOS TRANSLATOR'S WORKBENCH
· Translation memories management: standards, export, import, merge, reorganization, substantial modifications, modification or suppression of a translation unit, languages reversal, updating of a Word document translated with and not cleaned.
· Practical application
TAGEDITOR
· Presentation of the Web and documentary formats (Tags, Formatting, Structure)
· Presentation of the software interface
· Practical application
At the end of the course, students may participate to the SDL TRADOS certification project.
SDL TRADOS certification, which is free for SSLMIT students, is part of the agreement between SDL Company and the SSLMIT of Forlì _ University of Bologna.
In December there will be a number of training lessons, preceding the certification exam, to be arranged at the end of the semester.
Here, students will receive some ad hoc training material for the preparation of the certification exams.
The certification exams, divided into 3 competence levels, will occur online in Lab 2, in the period between 15 January and 15 February 2008.
The certifications will be delivered by SDL TRADOS through the SSLMIT of Forlì, after the overtaking of the different levels.

Teaching methods
Our didactic methods are based on the active participation of students during the lessons.
After a discussion about the different arguments of the didactic program, students carry out a number of practical exercises in order to be able to prepare the terminology project requested for the exam.
The project can be developed individually or in groups of maximum three students.
All the lessons will be carried out in Lab 2: Information Laboratory at the 2nd floor of Palazzo Montanari
Assessment methods
The exam will last about 30 minutes and will consist on the exposition and the comment of the single terminology projects.
The mark will be divided in3 parts: 15 point to the structuring, the organization and the content of the terminological cards, 10 points to the definition and the realization of the project and 5 points to its exposition.
