Historical-biographical profile: Maria Luisa Pombeni was born in Bolzano in 1950 and attended high school in Trento. She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Bologna in 1973, later obtaining a specialisation in Turin, pursuing an academic career and a professorship at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Bologna, and finally being appointed Dean in 2008 - a post she was unable to hold due to her untimely death. She was also director of CETRANS – Centro per le transizioni al lavoro e nel lavoro (Centre for labour market transitions) in Cesena, one of the most important in its field across Italy. She wrote numerous specialist publications, before losing her life tragically in a car accident in 2008.
She devoted her life’s work to the transition from training to work, such as school and career guidance, human resources management in the context of career development in companies, training education workers, and developing employment counselling services. She was also experienced at analysing the school career of adolescents, with particular reference to distress and failure. She served on numerous scientific committees of trade journals and held various institutional positions, both within and outside the University of Bologna. She promoted the birth and construction of the first Guidance Resource Centre in the Province of Bologna, which was later re-established by the Metropolitan City of Bologna.
