Course contents

Methods for the study of Cognitive and Emotional Processes:
Behavioural Measures (Reaction Times, Accuracy of Responses); Psychophysiological Measures; Neuroimaging; Evidence from the study of patients with brain lesions.

Cognitive and Emotional Modulation of Clinical Outcomes. Students will be involved in two practical activities, one concerning "social modulation of pain" and the other "the pros and cons of Placebo and Nocebo mechanisms in clinical practice".

 

Social Inferences from face and voice: the effects on clinical decisions. Students will be involved in practical activities able to reveal implicit decision bias.

Teaching methods

Discussions and practical exercises carried out in the classroom and laboratory individually or in small groups.

Assessment methods

The learning of the contents of the General Psychology course (Laboratory + Course) will be assessed through:

- a multiple-choice test consisting of 12 questions with 4 answer options (two wrong options, one partially correct but incomplete option, one correct and more complete option to which a score of 2 is given; no penalty for choosing the wrong answer); maximum score 24; the minimum score for the oral interview is 16.
-a short oral interview comprising a topic of the student's choice (the topic the student considers to be most interesting) and some bridging questions to other topics in the programme.
