Learning outcomes
The student, by the end of the course, will be able to recognize the psychological distress of hospitalized patients and adapt their relational and communication skills to the needs of the assisted person and their family members throughout the different stages of the life cycle. This will be achieved through the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the use of specific tools tailored to different age groups. The student will be able to identify risk factors for poor treatment adherence and recognize the main communicative elements and relational dynamics involved in building a trusting relationship with the patient and their family. They will also acquire specific communication and relational skills to promote patient and family collaboration in the development and adherence to individualized therapeutic education plans.
Course contents
-Basic theoretical knowledge and presentation of the main tools and strategies for identifying signs of distress and the needs of the patient and caregiver.
-Presentation of tools and strategies for building an effective care relationship to support the planning of nursing interventions aimed at patients and caregivers.
-Presentation of the main communicative elements and relational dynamics relevant to building a trusting relationship with the patient and their family members.
-Practical exercises focused on specific communication and relational skills to foster patient and family collaboration in the development and adherence to individualized therapeutic education plans.

Teaching methods
The course consists of 2 CFU (university credits) of lectures, corresponding to 24 hours. It includes PowerPoint presentations, viewing of interviews, discussion of clinical cases, and role-playing activities.
Assessment methods
The assessment of the student's acquired knowledge is based on a written exam.

The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, taking into account the teaching objectives.
