Learning outcomes

At the end of the seminar (an activity closely related to the objectives of the degree program), the student will have acquired specific knowledge and skills to address linguistic, philological, literary, historical, and/or artistic topics and issues."

Course contents

The seminar is intended for students planning to write their undergraduate thesis in a discipline within the field of Classical and Ancient Studies.
The seminar will address key aspects of thesis preparation, with particular focus on defining a research topic, constructing a coherent argument, and organizing the written work. Practical guidance will be provided on how to compile a scholarly bibliography and how to critically use digital resources relevant to Classical and Ancient Studies (such as databases, bibliographic indexes, digital editions, and lexicographic tools), as well as on how to select and manage both primary and secondary sources.
Part of the seminar will also be devoted to citation practices in line with academic standards. Special attention will be given to writing, understood as care for formulation, clarity of expression, and grammatical accuracy.

Readings/Bibliography

The relevant texts and didactic materials will be made available over the course of the seminar.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 30 hours of lectures, during which students may also be involved in individual or group exercises.

Assessment methods

The seminar does not have a grade but is assessed on a pass/no-pass basis. To pass, students are required to attend at least 12 out of 15 sessions. Attendance will be recorded. Evaluation will be based on the instructor’s review of a short written assignment demonstrating that students have acquired the basic skills and tools necessary for writing a bachelor’s thesis.

Teaching tools

During the course, slides will be presented and links to databases and digital resources useful for bibliographic research and the preparation of the bachelor’s thesis will be provided.
