Learning outcomes

The discussion sessions dedicated to the cases will be aimed at improving self-initiative and independent judgement, through the identification of the contribution of the medical discipline and other disciplines in solving or interpreting the problem.

Critical thinking and problem-solving will be exercised in defining the best solutions to address it.

Course contents

At the end of the course, the student will have an understanding of the impact of migration on the development and emergence of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.

The student will also gain knowledge about defining, preventing and preparing for pandemics from a global perspective.

Contents

Infections in travelers and immigrants

1- Epidemiology of endemic infections in tropical countries

2- Risk factors in relation to travel, age or pathologies of the subject

3- Immigration and potential transmissible diseases

4- Infections in the traveler and/or migrants

5- Clinic: approach to the patient, differential diagnostics

Tropical diseases: diagnosis

1- Main infections of the digestive system caused by viruses, bacteria, protozoa and helminths,

2- Viral hemorrhagic fevers,

3. Infectious screening of the migrant,

4. TB

Prophylaxis and Therapy

1- Behavioral prophylaxis against transmissible tropical infections

2- The main immunizations (general considerations, routine vaccinations, mandatory vaccinations, vaccinations in special groups (children, pregnant, immunosuppressed...), side effects and contraindications

3- Chemoprophylaxis (drugs to be used in relation to the trip and the subject)

4- Treatment of infections, side effects.

Teaching methods

Lectures, discussions with inverted class methodology, group work

Assessment methods

A minimum attendance of 60% of lessons is required to access the final assessment.

3. Demonstration of integrated understanding of the three modules

Final suitability assessment:

Final assessment of suitability based on commitment and participation demonstrated through the creation of a group presentation
