Learning outcomes
Students will learn about the principal characteristic and agronomic management of the most important herbaceous crops, so they will acquire the necessary tools and knowledge for the management of agricultural systems.
Course contents
Contents of the theoretical teaching unit (4 CFU, total 40 hours: 24 frontal lessons and 16 integrative activities) : A general introduction to the importance and worldwide diffusion of herbaceous crops (cereals, grain legumes, oilseed crops, sugar crops, textiles, and aromatics). Forage crops and forage conservation techniques. The following aspects are covered for all species: origin and distribution, botanical classification, morphology and physiology, cultivation techniques, and market destination of the product.
Skills acquired in the theoretical teaching unit:
The student learns the general aspects, agronomic advantages and characteristics of the main herbaceous species.
Contents of the practical unit: Field visits and identification of the main species. Students’ presentations of monographic topics based on the relevant literature, followed by critical discussion in class.
Skills acquired in the practical unit: the student is able to recognize cultivated herbaceous species at different phases of their biological cycle.

Assessment methods
Oral exam . The evaluation will be based on: completeness of the knowledge acquired; ability to analytically describe the topics covered in class; mastery of technical terminology and consistency with the topics covered. The exam will consist of two questions and will last 15-20 minutes.
