Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will know the importance of the use of technology and of web management strategies, with particular reference to the systems of travel and hospitality reservation (Global Distribution Systems, GDS), and the management software used by tourism firms. In particular, the student will be able to: know the main strategies of revenue management applied in tourism; know the architecture and the functionality of a GDS and of a travel web portal; use the ICT to manage tourism companies and destinations.
Course contents
The course blends theory and hands‑on business cases on:
- Revenue Management strategies and models
- Competitive‑set benchmarking using ADR, OR, RevPAR, TRevPAR, GOPPAR, RGI, NetRevPAR and related KPIs, with index interpretation.
- Simulation labs of RM decisions
- P&L impact of Revenue Management
- Digital distribution of tourism & hospitality services
- Channel management & profitability
- GDS, chain CRS & metasearch mechanics
- Flash & private sales, fenced offers and promotions design
Readings/Bibliography
There is no required text book for this course.
All compulsory materials — PowerPoint slides, business cases, datasets/notebooks, and assigned readings — will be uploaded to Virtuale before each lecture.
Teaching methods
- In presence lectures, assignments and cases.
- Seminars by guest and practioners .
- Case studies developed with the active participation of the students and presentation and discussion of case studies by the students.
Assessment methods
Assessment method for attending students
For attending students, assessment is by class participation, group work presentation and a 40-minutes final written exam:
- Class participation: 10% of final grade. It is assessed the pro-active attendance to lectures and the participation to the discussion of assigned questions to cases and readings.
- Group work presentation: 30% of final grade. A group work will be assigned to teams of 3-4 students.

Final written Exam: 60% of final grade. The exam will include multiple choice and a open question.
The preparation to the exam requires deep knowledge of the theories, analytical concepts and applications included in the teaching materials and slides.
There are no differences for Erasmus students.
Assessment method for not-attending students
For not-attending students, assessment is by a 60-minutes final written exam.

To pass the exam students must correctly answer at least 18 questions.
Grade rejection
Students can reject the grade obtained at the exam only once. To this end, he/she must email a request to the instructor within one week from the publication.
