Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student is expected to understand the characteristics of normal pregnancy development as well as those related to physiological childbirth. They will be able to recognize the main maternal-fetal pathological conditions that can arise during pregnancy and will have knowledge of the clinical management of these conditions. The student will also have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of reproductive function and its main disorders. Additionally, they will be capable of identifying the most common diseases affecting the female reproductive system and will possess basic knowledge of their management. Finally, the student will be able to recognize oncological pathologies of the female genital system and understand the key aspects of their early detection and clinical management.

The embryo, fetal annexes, and teratogenesis. Maternal changes during pregnancy. Pregnancy monitoring, obstetric ultrasound, and the use of medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Labor and delivery. Obstetric procedures. Congenital anomalies: diagnosis and screening. Infectious diseases in pregnancy. Miscarriage and hydatidiform mole. Ectopic pregnancy. Red cell alloimmunization. Placenta previa and abruptio placentae. Preterm birth. Hypertension during pregnancy. Intrauterine growth restriction. Diabetes in pregnancy. Twin pregnancies. Maternal diseases and pregnancy. From symptoms to diagnosis of major obstetric conditions. The reproductive axis and regulation of female gonadal function across different stages of life. The menstrual cycle. Menstrual irregularities. Hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Pathophysiology and clinical aspects of menopause. Contraception. Endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. Infertility. Medically assisted reproduction techniques. Vaginal and pelvic inflammatory diseases and sexually transmitted infections. Viral genital infections. Benign gynecological conditions. Endometrial pathology and endometrial carcinoma. Cervical pathology and cervical cancer. Ovarian neoplasms. Genital prolapse and urinary incontinence. Benign and malignant vulvar and vaginal lesions. Diagnostic techniques and diagnosis in gynecology. The new surgical approach and minimally invasive surgery in gynecological diseases.

Assessment methods
The final exam aims to assess the achievement of the course objectives. The final evaluation consists of an oral examination designed to verify the student’s ability to apply their knowledge base and to perform the necessary logical-deductive connections.
Grading scale for the final mark:

Knowledge of a very limited number of topics covered in the course and analytical ability that emerges only with the lecturer’s guidance, expression in generally correct language → 18–19;
