Teaching methods

The clinical internship takes place in the Periodontology Department and involves progressive learning based on observation, mentoring, and active participation in clinical activities.

The main teaching methods adopted include:

Clinical mentoring: Students work alongside experienced professionals, observing and participating in the various phases of periodontal treatment, from initial examination to maintenance.

Clinical case discussions: During the internship, structured sessions are offered for discussion and analysis of treated cases, with in-depth analysis of diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognosis.

Supervised practical training: Students are directly involved in simple clinical procedures (e.g., recording periodontal parameters, oral hygiene instruction, root planing) under the supervision of a mentor.

Completion and discussion of the clinical diary: Students keep a log of their activities, which is useful for reflecting on the experience, monitoring learning, and critically discussing with instructors.

Assessment methods

The student will be assessed based on an oral presentation of one or more periodontal clinical cases observed and/or treated during the internship. The assessment will assess the student's ability to integrate theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, as well as their ability to critically reason and communicate professionally.

Evaluation criteria will include:

Completeness and accuracy of the clinical case

Analysis and clinical reasoning skills

Theoretical knowledge supporting the case

Clarity of presentation and organization of the presentation

Ability to respond to questions and comments

The presentation may be individual or in a group (if applicable) and contributes to the final assessment of the 6th year internship.
