Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Medicine and Surgery (cod. 5904)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will understand the general principles of pathophysiology as they relate to the interpretation required in future clinical practice. In particular, knowledge of these principles allows for a complete understanding of the elements underlying the altered functioning of organs and systems, from which both semiological and clinical aspects derive. The student will also be able to correctly approach the clinical evaluation of the patient, particularly regarding physical examination, with the ability to independently assess various systems in relation to the knowledge of investigative procedures specific to clinical methodology. The integration of knowledge in clinical pathophysiology and semeiotics enables the student to understand and address the basic elements of diseases in a manner that lays the groundwork for further development in their course of study.

Course contents

During the "Laboratory" sessions of Medical Semeiotics, students will learn the theoretical and practical foundations for conducting medical history taking (anamnesis) and physical examination. The fundamental steps of the patient's physical examination will be explained and then applied to the various organs and systems.

A specific module will also be dedicated to doctor-patient communication, with particular focus on difficult interactions and the delivery of bad news.
