Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student possesses the knowledge and ability to understand a model of care based on physiology, continuity of care and practical organization to create de-medicalized environments for birth.

  • Giving birth safely: what the evidence says 
  • The concept of "Obstetric Risk"
  • The family context of the woman/couple (family of origin, presence of other children, etc.)
  • The concept of "continuity of care"
  • The midwife, the team, being on call
  • The "Obstetric bag", what you need for delivery assistance
  • Welcoming the newborn
  • Support the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding
  • How to deal with complications and emergencies
  • Arrange transfer to hospital
  • Postpartum and puerperium: supporting physical, emotional, relational and practical adaptation
