Learning outcomes
At the end of the module, the student possesses the knowledge and ability to understand the fundamentals of clinical neurophysiology.
Course contents
Neurophysiological basis of EEG.
EEG signal acquisition. Dipole theory. 10-20 system, Monopolar and Bipolar Montage, Mean Reference.
Neurophysiological bases of Evoked Potentials: the PESS (Somesthetic Evoked Potentials) and the sensory pathway; the PEM (Motor Evoked Potentials) and the motor pathway; the Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP) and the visual pathway; the Brainstem Evoked Potentials and the Acoustic pathway.
EMG and pathophysiology of the peripheral nervous system.
Clinical Cases.

Assessment methods
Oral test
The date of the oral examination will be agreed with students at the first class
The exam will be held c/o I floor, pad G, Osp Bellaria
Two questions, one on the theoretical part, the other based on the recognition of inabitual EEG patterns, the main waves of PESS, PEM, PEV and BAER
The exam aims to assess the achievement of the teaching objectives:
-know the anatomical and neurophysological basis of normal and pathological EEG, Evoked Potentials and EMG
-ability to understand the basics of clinical neurophysiology.
The grade is defined on the average of the grades given in the two questions. This grade will then be integrated with those of the other lectures in the integrated course for the final grade
Teaching tools
Videos of clinical cases
Physiological and pathological EEG traces, evoked potentials and EMG traces.
