Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will know major protagonists, experiments and events which characterized the development of ideas and historiographical methods in the history of physics.

Besides, she/he will be able to identify the opportunities, issues and methodologies which concern the use of the history of physics in teaching

Course contents

The course will discuss the interplay between theory and experiment in the first modern age. By focusing on the figure of Galileo Galilei, his scientific writings and the results achieved within the field of the history and epistemology of physics, the course will present the major typologies of experiments introduced by Galileo and will discuss the role of theoretical reasoning for their conduction.

Galilean experiments will be moreover discussed in terms of their replicability in the classroom by putting into light the analogies and differences between the historical instruments used by the scientist and modern apparatuses used in nowadays school laboratories

Readings/Bibliography

Teaching material will be delivered during the course of the lessons through the Virtual platform. It will consist in slides/presentations, research papers, and and work material (sheets for individual work and group work, questionnaires,...)

Assessment methods

Fatto salvo l'accertamento della percentuale minima di frequenza e la consegna di eventuali esercitazioni richieste durante il corso, la valutazione dell'apprendimento dei contenuti dell'insegnamento è contestuale alla prova finale per l’acquisizione dell'abilitazione all'insegnamento nella classe di concorso del percorso formativo, prevista dall'Art. 9 del DPCM 4 agosto 2023
