Learning outcomes

The course aims to supply the students with the essential elements for the general knowledge for the theory and practice for the kidney disease respecting the following objective format:

  • To provide the synthetic elements for a recognition of the clinical features during acute or chronic kidney disease;
  • To supply the synthetic elements for the prevention, diverse diagnosis, ongoing clinical condition, decision making and possible complications connected to chronic kidney diseases;
  • To supply the synthetic elements in relation to the possible therapeutic approaches, pharmacological and non-pharmacological useful in chronic kidney failure; in patients treated with replacement therapy, in particular dialysis and renal transplantation.
  • To provide the information of the immunological basis of the kidney transplant and the therapeutic options for the possible complications.

At the end of the course the student has the theoretical and practical bases for the recognition of assessing type of disease symptoms, clinical signs, laboratory and instrumental examinations.

Teaching methods

The student will acquire the basic knowledge of the main diseases of nephrological interest and clinical, laboratory and instrumental investigations necessary to make a diagnosis.

The students will also have the chance to visit the nephrological units during practical lessons in which will be discussed clinical topics to improve clinical skills. The work-placements will be carried out in small groups throughout the course.

Assessment methods

There will be an oral exam.
