Learning outcomes
Students know and correctly use the basic techniques of
interpretation (including sight translation, chuchotage and note
taking) from French into Italian.
Course contents
Presentation of the different working settings of interpreters in
the public and private sector.
Presentation of the different interpreting techniques:
simultaneous, consecutive and chuchotage.
Exercises of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting.

Additional recommended texts will be communicated during the school
year.
Teaching methods
Exercises of shadowing, attention and concentration improvement,
production and rewording of oral texts, oral summaries with or
without notes, sight translation into Italian, chuchotage exercises
and short consecutive and simultaneous interpretations. Texts of
growing complexity will be taken from Institutions and
conferences.
Assessment methods
The exam will consist in a consecutive interpretation of about 5
minutes and a simultaneous interpretation of 6-8 minutes on texts
of general topics (mainly polics and institutions).
Students shall demonstrate full mastery of the consecutive and
simultaneous interpretation techniques. In particular, they shall
be able to make a fluent presentation with correct contents and
language.
Teaching tools
Exercises of simultaneous and consecutive interpreting based on
written and recorded texts from real-life conferences, with growing
complexity.
