Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student could be able to follow the conceptual framework and the historical debate within  this aspect of the study of ancient history. He should become familiar with the basic concepts of economical science. In summary the student should be able to relate the general reflections with a specific case study,  to approach texts and data  and know how to organize and classify problems and complex information in a consistent manner communicating verbally with capacity for synthesis.

1) The history of ancient economy in the context of the economic historiography
2) Economy and society in the ancient city

Readings/Bibliography

For the general preparation are recommended the texts of: F. Carlà-A. Marcone, Economia e finanza a Roma, Bologna Il Mulino 2011; L. Migeotte, L'economia delle città greche: dall'età arcaica all'Alto Impero romano, Roma Carocci 2003.

Assessment methods

The verification of the preparation will take place mainly through a dialogue with the student. Is 'welcome the preparation, on issues and bibliography to be agreed with the teacher, of papers, the discussion of which will start the examination
