27104 - Film Analysis

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the specific knowledge to confront the main issues of film analysis from the origins to the present-day. A basic cultural competence allowing a critical analysis of films from a thematic and stylistic viewpoint, built on pinpointing the very filmic procedures. Therefore a participation to the course is recommended to all who are interested in film-study from the viewpoint of professionals in the field of cinema critique and audio-visual authoring.

Students for Basic filmography required for the exam.
Every single title of the filmography can be found at the video library of the Department. The study of almost 9 titles from the list below is mandatory. Eight of them will be analysed during the lessons.

Students are required to see and analyse at least three of the films below.

One film chosen from Group 1*:

- Revenant (2015); Birdman (2014); 21 Grams (2003)

One film chosen from Group 2*:

- Gertrud (1964); Ordet (1955); Dies Irae (1943)

One film chosen from Group 3*

- Senso (1955); Dancer in the Dark (2000); La femme d'à côté (La signora della porta accanto) (1981)

 

Teaching methods

* Classes and lessons are in italian Language.

Assessment methods

 L'ESAME è ORALE E IN LINGUA ITALIANA. Lo studente deve saper appicare i concetti di Christopher Volger ai film scelti.

The exam is oral and in Italian Language: Students are required to be able to apply Cristopher Vogler's theories and principles to the chosen films.
