76002 - Archaeology of Late Ancient and Medieval Cities

Learning outcomes

The course intends to furnish, first of all to the light of the results of the searches of urban archaeology, the fundamental tools of orientation for the knowledge and the study of the city during Late Antiquity and medieval ages in a Mediterranean horizon, with particular respect to the material culture over that matters with urbanistic and territorial organization.

Course contents

The course introduces to the study of the city and its territory under the archaeological profile in the centuries of the great transformations of the Late Antiquity. It is constituted by a first form introductory methodological duct beginning by the reading of the "Ordo urbium nobilium" of Decimus Magnus Ausonius, by a form devoted to the illustration of a specific case and finally by an indicative form devoted to the Emilia-Romagna.
