Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the students should learn the main theories on firm organization and on human resource management.  They should learn the main methods for collecting data on human resource management in organizations, and learn practices on recruitment, training and teamworking.

Course contents

This course provides a theoretical and methodological framework concerning human resource management in organizations, with a particular attention on innovative models. During the course the most common visions and the main tools available to human resource management will be focused: recruitment and selection, assessment of career potential, training, evaluation of positions and of performance. Critical approaches to human resource management will also be examined.

Specifically, the following issues will be dealt with:
- nature and evolution of human resource management
- human resource management approaches
- models of human resource management
- human resource management in a systemic view 
- the practices of human resource management: the flow systems and the compensation systems
- critical interpretations: pain at work and workers exploitation
The course will also deepen issues connected to 'diversity management' and 'corporate social responsibility'.

Teaching methods

The course is organized in different parts: lectures will be alternated with group discussions and case studies
