Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide the basic knowledge on various methods used in the field of Applied Physics:
- image acquisition and digital image processing;
- Monte Carlo methods for transport of radiation within matter;
- X-ray imaging techniques.
Course contents
- Image acquisition and digital image processing: acquisition of digital images, brief theoretical introduction and experimental acquisition with digital cameras. Pre-processing and calibration techniques. Digital image processing: point, local, and geometric operations. Analysis in spatial and frequency domains.
- Lab experience on image acquisition and
processing.
- Monte Carlo simulations: theoretical overview and practical example for modeling a detection system.
