Learning outcomes

The course aims at describing typologies, functions, uses of the writing and its relationship with the image (for instance in manuscript and printed book, in the exsposed writings, etc.) in West, from Antiquity to the Renaissance, with some references to the modern and contemporary period.

Course contents

The course intends to explain the ideological and symbolic meaning of the writing from Antiquity to the Middle Age, in its relationship of contiguity with the image, in East and West  manuscript production, with references to the exsposed writing.

The students unable to attendance must contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to establish an alternative program.

Assessment methods

The oral exam aims at testing the skills in the comprehension and knowledge of the recommended bibliography.
