Learning outcomes
The students have to face the learning of the most important tools
of visual semiotics theory. In particular, they will know the
distinction between plastic level and figurative level, the
enunciation theory, sensoriality, passional dimension, etc. and
they will be able to use these tools to visual text analysis.
Course contents
The title of the course is Basics of Visual Semiotics. It
will be focused on basic theorical and methodological aspects of
the visual analysis. We'll take into account different objects:
from paintings to advertising, from sculpture to
installation.

Lectures.
Assessment methods
Oral exam on the recommended readings. Students have to demonstrate
a critical understanding of the recommended reading.
The recommended readings and the assessment methods will be the
same for students that haven't attended the course.
Teaching tools
In addition to lectures, power-point presentations, movies and
documentaries will be used to support the teaching.
