IMPORTANT NOTICE
On the 23 June 2010 the professors and researchers of the
faculty's governing body unanimously approved a motion in protest
at the measures regarding the state university system instituted by
the D.D.L. 1905 (Gelmini Law) and by the 2010 Budget plan.
Consequently the course described here could be affected by
industrial action should the Gelmini Law be approved in its current
form. The motion can be downloaded at:

We will analyze representatives "texts" of Anglo-American culture such as plays by Shakespeare, short stories by Flannery O'Connor, films by the Cohen brothers, opinion essays from various newspapers, and even advertising. The focus is on "how" we read what we read, and such an approach should enable the students to therefore be able to "apply" this mode of "close" reading to any text.
