Learning outcomes

The course provides the knowledge of the elements of plant biology requested for the understanding of the biological and productive cycle of the most importat species of veterinary interest and in particular of the marine plants toxic or potentially toxic phytoplankton. It also provides the necessary expertise for the identification of  those plants.

Course contents

Introduction to botany. The plant cell: morphological and structural characteristics. The plant cell wall. The plant: hystology and anatomy. Main metabolic pathways: glycolysis, respiration, fermentations and photosynthesis. The nitrogen cycle. Morpho-physiological plant adaptation to abiotic and biotic stress.  Reproduction. Sistematic of plants. Outlines of bacteria. fungi, algae, bryophytes, pteridophytes and spermatophytes. Marine plants: Cyanophyta with particular regard to toxic species; Prochlorophyta;  eukaryotic algae(DinophytaBacillariophyta and Raphidophyta). Species producing ichthyotoxins.
